Have been hard at work creating a small force for the Rhodesian Bush War in 15mm. We plan to re-create some small engagements using Battlefront's 'Nam rules (and/or Team Yankee, not sure how those interact yet.)
The infantry is all from Peter Pig's African Wars South Africans with some head swaps. Rhodesians favoured the 'troopie' cap but also wore the bush hat. The excellent Alouette Helicopters are from Armaments in Miniature, and I cannot recommend them enough. They are resin, sculpted and cast to a high standard. Mr. Dave is a pleasure to do business with, and I plan on getting some Hawker Hunters from him to round out my air support.
I have painted the infantry as the soldiers of the RAR, the Rhodesian African Rifles. They participated in many internal Fireforce operations during the Bush War. Osprey's books on this and other African Wars are good, but for those who are more interested in the RAR, do see if you can get a copy of Masodja by Alexandre Binda. It is an incredibly in-depth look at the history and character of the regiment. That, coupled with Major Michael P. Stewart's Art of War Paper "The Rhodesian African Rifles, The Growth and Adaptation of a Multicultural Regiment through the Rhodesian Bush War, 1965-1980" has given me a great appreciation of the regiment and the brave men who served in it.
Here are some work-in-progress shots. First on my painting desk and then outside getting a clear coat.
I also knocked up some unit cards in the new Battlefront style using the free image editor Inkscape.
